Life at Timor-Leste

Timor is located north of Australia and Oceania, and is FAST TIME one of the easternmost Sunda Timor Sor Islands. Together with Sumba, Babar and associated smaller islands, Timor forms the southern outer archipelago of the Lesser Sunda Islands with the inner islands of Flores, Alor and Wetar to the north, and beyond them Sulawesi.

Timor-Leste is an intriguing new tourism destination and attracting an increasing number of international travellers keen to experience its coral reefs, beaches, rugged mountains and rich cultural heritage.

There is really no place on earth quite like Timor Leste, from its unique historical background to its pristine coral reefs. Mountains with tropical rainforests in the center of the country give way to grassy plains, and white and black sand beaches.

Timor-Leste has a hot tropical climate with a dry season, May- November, and a wet season, December- April. The temperature on the coast is usually between 25-35C and in the mountains at higher elevation the weather is much cooler -sometimes wet and misty and at other times clear and invigorating.

The currency of Timor-Leste is the United States dollar (USD) based on a declaration of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET) in 2000.

Timor-Leste (officially, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste) is located in Southeast Asia, on the southernmost edge of the Indonesian archipelago, northwest of Australia; Dili is the capital city.

However, despite these challenges, East Timor has built a mostly successful democracy and is regularly considered one of the most free countries in Asia, being ranked as the only fully free and fair democracy in Southeast Asia, and ranking tenth in world press freedom as of 2023, with very high levels of voter
